Welcoming Baby Charlotte: A Sweet Newborn Session with Big Brother in Aurora, Colorado

There’s a moment that happens sometimes during newborn sessions — the kind that reminds me exactly why I do what I do.
Baby Charlotte’s session was one of those moments.
This family is a returning Tiny Details family, which already means something special to me. I photographed their first baby, Theodore, a few years ago. When they reached out again to welcome their brand-new baby girl, Charlotte, it felt like seeing old friends.
But this time, there was one big concern.

“Let’s Skip the Sibling Photos…”
When mom and I were planning Charlotte’s newborn session, she told me she didn’t want sibling or family photos at all.
Not because she didn’t want them — but because she was worried.
Theodore was three years old, full of toddler energy, and she was genuinely concerned about how he might behave in the studio. Her thought was simple and loving: why add stress when we can just focus on the baby?
And I get that. Truly.
But because I knew this family — and because I’ve worked with hundreds of newborn sessions that include toddlers — I gently pushed back.
I told her:
This part is my job, not hers
We’d keep things easy and pressure-free
And if it didn’t work? Dad could step in and take Theodore out — no harm, no stress, no guilt
I promised her one thing: we would try.

The Toddler Who Stole the Show
And then Theodore arrived.
And let me tell you… he was amazing.
Not “pretty good for a toddler” amazing — I mean downright incredible.
He:
Felt completely at ease in the studio
Played happily with the little kitchen set
Watched everything with curiosity
Helped me move through sets
And even picked up a camera to “take photos” himself
He wasn’t disruptive.He wasn’t overwhelmed.He wasn’t difficult.
He was engaged, proud, gentle — and absolutely beaming in the family portraits.
Those sibling images? The ones mom almost said no to?
They ended up being some of the most joyful, heartfelt photos from the entire session.
Styling Baby Charlotte: Butterflies, Flowers & Sunshine
For Charlotte’s newborn portraits, mom envisioned something soft and happy — butterflies, flowers, and sunshine.
Beyond that, she trusted me completely.
That kind of trust comes from history. We’d already worked together before, laughed together before (including one very memorable visit when their house was way too hot thanks to a broken heater), and built a real relationship.
So I leaned into:
Gentle florals
Warm, light-filled tones
Soft textures and feminine details
A calm, baby-led flow that let Charlotte stay cozy and content
Charlotte was an absolute dream — peaceful, sweet, and perfectly happy to be posed and snuggled.
The Images They Almost Didn’t Have
This session is one I’ll always remember — not just because the images turned out beautifully (they truly did), but because it’s such a perfect reminder of something I tell parents often:
You don’t have to manage everything. You don’t have to anticipate every problem. You don’t have to protect yourself from moments you might love later.
Sometimes, trusting the process — and trusting your photographer — gives you memories you didn’t even know you were missing.
And I’m so glad Charlotte’s parents trusted me enough to try.
