Aurora Newborn Photography | Baby Luca's Woodland-Inspired Studio Session

Some babies make you work for every image.

And then there are babies like Luca.

The kind of baby that makes you quietly wonder if he's secretly done this before.

From the moment he arrived at the studio, Luca was calm, content, and incredibly cooperative. He settled beautifully into pose after pose, making it possible to create a gallery filled with variety, personality, and some of my favorite newborn images of the year.

And honestly?

His mugshots were so consistent that they almost looked identical.

Usually newborn expressions change every few seconds. Luca simply looked peaceful, comfortable, and perfectly content throughout most of the session.

A Woodland-Inspired Newborn Session

Before their session, Luca's parents described their style as a little rustic.

They enjoy refinishing old furniture and creating a home that feels warm, welcoming, and collected over time rather than perfectly curated.

Their nursery reflected that same feeling.

Woodland animals, natural textures, and earthy tones inspired much of the design, so we built the session around:

  • sage greens

  • burnt orange tones

  • warm neutrals

  • soft textures

  • woodland-inspired props

The result was a gallery that felt cozy, timeless, and perfectly suited to their family.

The Fox Was a Must

Every newborn session includes a planning consultation where we talk through colors, themes, and meaningful details.

Luca's parents requested a few special ideas, including hockey, Avalanche, rocket ships, foxes, and their beloved mini poodle.

While we couldn't make every idea fit naturally into the session design, we were able to incorporate both the fox and mini poodle themes.

And the fox images?

Absolutely adorable.

Those woodland-inspired setups fit the overall nursery theme beautifully and became some of the standout images from the gallery.

The Bear Portrait Everyone Loved

It's hard to pick a favorite image from Luca's session.

But if I had to choose?

The bear portrait wins.

Something about that tiny face tucked into the bear bonnet just perfectly captured how small and new he was in that moment.

It's one of those images that feels sweet now and will somehow feel even sweeter ten years from now.

Stunning Family Portraits

Luca's parents were just as wonderful as their baby.

Kind, relaxed, and incredibly easy to work with.

The family portraits from this session are some of my favorites because they feel so natural.

There's a softness to the way they look at him and hold him that tells the story without needing words.

And honestly, they are both ridiculously photogenic.

The entire time I was editing, I kept thinking they looked like they belonged on an Avengers movie poster.

Beautiful people. Beautiful connection.

Beautiful images.

Preserving the Details That Change So Quickly

One of my favorite parts of newborn photography is capturing the tiny details families forget are changing.

The little fingers.

The tiny toes.

The sleepy expressions.

The way a newborn curls naturally into poses they won't fit into just weeks later.

Those details matter.

And they become even more meaningful with time.

Creating Artwork for Their Home

After their gallery reveal, Luca's family selected two large wall art pieces for their home.

This is always one of my favorite parts of the process.

Because photographs deserve more than a hard drive.

They deserve to be seen every day.

To become part of a family's story.

To hang on walls and quietly remind parents just how tiny their baby once was.
