Aurora Newborn Photography | Baby Wrenlee's Newborn Session with Big Brother Jaxon
When parents ask me if they should bring an older sibling to their newborn session, my answer is always the same: absolutely. Some of my favorite images happen because there's a proud big brother or big sister waiting to meet the newest member of the family.
That was definitely the case when sweet Wrenlee came into the studio.
A few years ago, I had the privilege of photographing her big brother, Jaxon, as a newborn. Walking through my studio doors again with their newest little girl felt less like meeting new clients and more like catching up with old friends. Her mom works as a nurse alongside my sister, so I've had the chance to know this family beyond just our sessions, and I genuinely love seeing them.
One of the greatest gifts this job has given me is watching families grow. I meet couples when they're bringing home their very first baby, and then, before I know it, they're back carrying another tiny bundle while a toddler proudly introduces me to "his baby." Those moments never get old.
A Second Chapter
Every baby deserves their own story.
At the same time, I love finding little ways to connect one chapter to the next. During Jaxon's newborn session, we created one of my favorite portraits using wooden name blocks. This time, we recreated that same idea for Wrenlee.
Seeing those two images side by side makes me smile.
After the session, I also created something I had been looking forward to from the moment they booked. I combined portraits from both newborn sessions into one "bowl of babies" image, placing Jaxon and Wrenlee together as newborns even though they were photographed years apart.
It's one of those pieces that reminds me why I love newborn photography so much. These portraits don't just preserve today—they become part of tomorrow's memories too.
The Little Details That Matter
There was another familiar detail quietly woven throughout Wrenlee's session.
Their family once again brought the cross necklace containing the ashes of their late daughter. We had included it during Jaxon's newborn session, and it felt only natural that it would be part of Wrenlee's story as well.
Sometimes families bring heirloom blankets or a favorite stuffed animal. Sometimes they bring something much more personal.
I never want those items to become the focus of the session, but I love finding thoughtful ways to include them. They tell part of a family's story, and every family's story deserves to be honored.
Pinks, Purples, and One Tiny Nurse
This session looked completely different from Jaxon's—and that made it so much fun.
Mom was excited to use soft ballet pinks, gentle purples, and sage green throughout the gallery. She also had one request that made me smile immediately.
Since she's a nurse, she loved the idea of creating a tiny nurse setup for Wrenlee.
I always enjoy incorporating little pieces of a family's life into a newborn session. Years from now, that photograph won't just be adorable. It'll remind Wrenlee of the career her mom loved and the season of life they were in when she arrived.
Big Brother Completely Stole the Show
I have to admit something.
As excited as I was to photograph Wrenlee...
I couldn't wait to see Jaxon.
Sibling portraits are always a little unpredictable. Toddlers don't exactly show up with a modeling contract, and honestly, I wouldn't want them to.
They're curious.
They're busy.
They're wonderfully themselves.
Jaxon absolutely melted my heart.
He snuggled his baby sister, gave us genuine smiles, and helped create some of my favorite sibling portraits I've photographed in a long time. Those are the kinds of images I know their family will treasure long after the newborn wraps are packed away.
Why Repeat Families Mean So Much

It's easy to say the tiny fingers, sleepy smiles, or beautiful finished portraits.
But if I'm being honest...
It's this.
Watching families come back.
Seeing toddlers become big brothers.
Meeting babies who haven't even been born the last time I saw their parents.
Getting to tell the next chapter instead of starting a brand-new story every time.
Photographing Wrenlee wasn't just another newborn session.
